Your Sky Today
The daily Vedic horoscope, calculated with the sidereal zodiac.
Vedic horoscopes use the sidereal zodiac, so your sign may differ from the one you know from Western astrology (usually the previous sign).
Choose your Vedic sign
Your Vedic (sidereal) sign is usually different from your Western sign. Choose the one you know as yours in Vedic astrology — VEDAN never infers it from the Western sign.
Vedic glossary
Terms that appear in the horoscope, in plain language.
- Sidereal zodiac
- Measures the signs against the fixed stars. It differs from the tropical (Western) zodiac by about 24°, so your Vedic sign is usually the sign before your Western one.
- Rashi
- A sign of the Vedic zodiac. There are 12, as in Western astrology, but they are calculated with the sidereal zodiac.
- Graha
- Each of the nine bodies of Vedic astrology: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu.
- Rahu and Ketu
- The lunar nodes: points where the Moon's orbit crosses the Sun's. They are not physical planets; they symbolize ambition and detachment.
- Retrograde
- When a planet seems to move backwards as seen from Earth. In a reading it usually asks for review and revisiting rather than new starts.
- House
- Each of the 12 areas of life, counted from your sign; house 1 is the sign itself.
- Nakshatra
- The 27 “lunar mansions”: the division of the sky the Moon moves through over the month. VEDAN uses the nakshatras in the deck's cards.
- Waxing and waning Moon
- The Moon grows from new to full (Shukla) and shrinks from full to new (Krishna). The Vedic cycle has 30 phases, the tithis.
What is sidereal astrology?
Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which follows the fixed stars. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, tied to the seasons. Because of the precession of the equinoxes, the two are offset by about 24° — almost a whole sign — so your Vedic sign is usually different from your Western one. VEDAN uses the Lahiri ayanamsha and never infers your Vedic sign from your Western sign.
